Cause:

Raising Awareness on Climate Change in Agriculture

The Problem

Climate change is one of the most significant threats to agriculture in Nigeria, yet many farmers remain unaware of its causes, effects, and necessary adaptation strategies. Due to religious fear-mongering, ignorance, resistance to change, and lack of education, many rural communities do not believe in climate change or see it as a hoax. This lack of awareness leads to poor adaptation strategies, increased vulnerability to extreme weather, and declining agricultural productivity.

The Solution

NWAPDI aims to launch a nationwide climate education and adaptation program to:

RAISE AWARENESS:

Develop an outreach campaign using radio, television, social media, and community meetings to educate farmers on the reality of climate change.

PROVIDE TRAINING:

Establish Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) workshops to teach farmers sustainable practices such as soil conservation, drought-resistant crops, and precision farming.

DEVELOP CLIMATE RESILIENCE RESOURCES:

Distribute climate adaptation toolkits (digital and physical) containing practical guides, drought-resistant seed samples, and access to mobile advisory services.

ENGAGE RELIGIOUS and COMMUNITY LEADERS:

Partner with influential figures to help dispel climate misinformation and integrate climate education into community development programs.

Estimated Cost Breakdown:

•  Media Awareness Campaign (TV, Radio, Social Media, Print): $50,000

•  Climate Smart Agriculture Training Workshops (36 States): $90,000

•  Production and Distribution of Climate Adaptation Toolkits: $40,000

•  Community Outreach & Engagement with Religious Leaders: $30,000

•  Administrative and Logistical Support: $20,000

Total Funding Goal: $230,000 or $6,389 per state
